PM Narendra Modi Arrives in Buenos Aires for Historic Bilateral Visit to Argentina

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital, on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between the two countries. This visit marks the first bilateral trip by an Indian prime minister to Argentina in 57 years and Modi’s second visit to the country, his first being in 2018 for the G20 Summit.

Modi was given a ceremonial welcome at Ezeiza International Airport on Friday evening (local time), where he was greeted by enthusiastic members of the Indian community chanting slogans like “Modi, Modi” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai.” A cultural dance performance was held in his honor.

In a post on X, Modi said, “Landed in Buenos Aires for a bilateral visit which will focus on augmenting relations with Argentina. I’m eager to be meeting President Javier Milei and holding detailed talks with him.”

During the visit, Modi will meet with Argentine President Javier Milei to discuss ways to deepen cooperation in key sectors including defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that this visit is set to “further deepen the multifaceted strategic partnership” between the two nations.

In his statement before the visit, Modi called Argentina a “key economic partner in Latin America” and praised the country’s collaboration in the G20 forum. He expressed eagerness to advance cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.

Modi’s visit to Argentina is part of a five-nation tour. He arrived here after concluding a successful two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago, where six agreements were signed to boost bilateral ties. Next, he will travel to Brazil to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, followed by a state visit, and finally, he will visit Namibia.
