Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Maldives on July 25 and 26. He was invited by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu.
This is PM Modi’s first visit to the Maldives after a diplomatic row earlier this year. In January 2024, some Maldivian leaders made negative comments about India and PM Modi, which caused tension between the two countries.
Modi will attend the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour. During the visit, he will also meet President Muizzu to discuss ways to improve cooperation and strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
Before going to the Maldives, PM Modi will visit the United Kingdom on July 23 and 24. There, he is expected to finalise a major trade agreement with the UK.
This two-nation tour highlights India’s efforts to build strong diplomatic ties and improve regional partnerships.
