
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Bangkok, Thailand, to attend the 6th BIMSTEC Summit. On Thursday, he met Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus for the first time since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government.
PM Modi also met Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and expressed condolences for the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. He said India is helping Myanmar during this difficult time. They also discussed cooperation in areas like infrastructure, connectivity, and capacity building.
During the Summit, the leaders observed a minute of silence for the earthquake victims. PM Modi posted on social media saying that BIMSTEC members are committed to working together for the betterment of the people.
PM Modi also held bilateral talks with Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The two leaders discussed defence, digital cooperation, tourism, education, science and technology, and other important areas.
The BIMSTEC Summit will officially take place on Friday, bringing together leaders from countries around the Bay of Bengal region to improve regional cooperation.
