PM Modi Hails Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, Highlights India’s Growing Space Interest

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s safe return from space, saying the whole country felt proud and happy. Speaking in his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio program on Sunday Modi said children across India are showing great interest in space science.

He also shared that more than 200 startups are now working in the space sector in India compared to less than 50 five years ago. Modi said this shows how fast the country is growing in the space field.

He stressed that the path to a developed India (Viksit Bharat) goes through self-reliance and urged people to support ‘Vocal for Local’ to build an Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

With National Space Day coming up on August 23 the Prime Minister invited ideas from people on how it should be celebrated.

Modi also said that Indian students are doing well in competitions like Chemistry and Mathematics Olympiads.

In another proud moment, he added that 12 Maratha forts in India have now been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites calling them symbols of bravery and great vision.
