Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, on Wednesday morning, marking his first-ever visit to the country. This is only the third time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Namibia.
PM Modi is in Namibia on a State visit at the invitation of Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. On arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport, he received a ceremonial welcome.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit reflects India’s strong and historical ties with Namibia. During his stay, PM Modi will hold talks with President Nandi-Ndaitwah, pay tribute to Namibia’s Founding Father and first President Dr. Sam Nujoma, and address the Namibian Parliament.
Before reaching Namibia, PM Modi visited Brazil, where he attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro and held bilateral talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia. He thanked President Lula and the Brazilian people for their warm hospitality. In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude and highlighted the importance of the BRICS Summit and his meetings with other world leaders.
During his Brazil visit, President Lula awarded PM Modi Brazil’s highest civilian honour, The Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross.
Namibia is the final destination in PM Modi’s five-nation tour, which also included visits to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Brazil.
