To stop child begging in Pathankot the District Child Protection Department has started a special campaign under the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
On Fridayseveral raids were carried out in different parts of the city led by the Deputy Commissioner.
During one of the raids near Shani Dev Temple a young girl was found begging. Officials talked to her parents and gave them instructions. The child was later released but the authorities warned that strict action would be taken against any parent who allows their child to beg.
District Child Protection Officer Renu Kumari said this campaign is part of the CM’s Jeevan Jyoti campaign and will continue till July 31 2025. The focus is on stopping children from begging outside temples and on roads.
She added that children found begging will be enrolled in schools to receive an education. If the parents fail to provide proper documents for the child then child will be shifted to a government shelter home and further legal steps will be taken.
