For the sixth night in a row, Pakistani troops have fired without reason at Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) and, for the first time since last week, along the International Border (IB) in Jammu, officials said on Wednesday.
The firing started between April 29 and 30 in the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army responded quickly and in the right measure. Officials said similar firing was also reported from the Baramulla and Kupwara districts in Kashmir, and from the Pargwal area along the IB in Jammu.
The firing first began in the northern parts—Kupwara and Baramulla—and then spread to Poonch, Akhnoor, Sunderbani, and Naushera in Rajouri, finally reaching the IB in Jammu’s Pargwal sector.
Tensions have been high since the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 people. In response, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty on April 24. Since then, Pakistan has been firing at various Indian posts, mostly along the LoC—until now when it also targeted the International Border.
Officials called the firing “unprovoked,” and confirmed that Indian forces responded effectively to defend the country.
