Pakistan Denies Involvement in Pahalgam Attack, Calls It “Home-Grown”

Pakistan has made its first official statement after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan had “no connection” to the attack and that the country “rejects terrorism in all its forms.”

He also claimed that the attack was “home-grown”, meaning it was carried out by people from within India, not by groups from Pakistan. Asif pointed to unrest in several Indian states—like Nagaland, Manipur, Kashmir, and Chhattisgarh—as signs of dissatisfaction with the central government.

He said, “This is a reaction to how the Indian government is treating people in different parts of the country.” He added that while Pakistan condemns all kinds of terrorism and believes that innocent people should not be targets, it becomes easy to blame Pakistan when local unrest turns violent.

This statement comes less than 24 hours after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
