Three people died on Sunday at the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar. A report by the inquiry committee says that the hospital’s oxygen plant was being handled by a fourth-class employee who was not trained to operate it. Only qualified staff should run such machines, but this person had no technical knowledge and had earlier worked in other hospital departments.
This may have caused a serious mistake but the exact reason for the deaths is still not clear. No post-mortems were done because the families didn’t agree and the police did not register a case. So, it cannot be confirmed whether the deaths happened due to oxygen supply problems or because the patients were already very sick.
The oxygen plant was fixed the next day on Monday. Hospital officials said they are now checking the plant’s technical problems. The report from the inquiry will be sent to the health department. If any carelessness is found strict action will be taken.
Sukhbir Singh Badal the president of Shiromani Akali Dal blamed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for the incident. He posted on social media that this was not just carelessness but murder.
He said Arvind Kejriwal, who talks about his Delhi Model in Punjab should take responsibility. He added that the AAP government is spending Punjab’s money on promotion in other states instead of fixing important services like hospitals.
