On Thursday, opposition parties, led by the Congress, assured full support to the government for any steps it takes to fight terrorism after the Pahalgam attack. This support came during an all-party meeting held by the Centre to inform political leaders about the incident.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that officials from the Home Ministry and Intelligence Bureau explained the details of the attack, including the mistakes that led to it. They also talked about the challenges faced in the area, such as the Baisaran meadow being reachable only by foot or horse. The main focus of the briefing was on the new safety steps being taken to prevent such attacks in the future.
Rijiju said all political parties stood together and agreed not to politicise the tragedy. At the beginning of the meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh shared the key decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security on April 23. He repeated the government’s firm policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and highlighted PM Modi’s strong message to terrorists during his speech in Bihar.
