NRI Hunts Wild Boar in Chandigarh: Forest Department Recovers Meat, 5 Airguns, and a Net from Home; Accused Also Arrested.


An NRI hunted a wild boar in Chandigarh. After learning about this, the police and the Forest Department team conducted a raid on the Sector-35 residence. A significant amount of meat was found inside the premises during the search. The Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun has received meat samples from the department for in-depth analysis.

The NRI has been arrested, and a complaint has been filed against the accused under sections 9, 39, 40, 48-A, 49-B, 50, 51, and 57 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Jaspreet Singh Ghumman, who arrived in India from America with his family, has been identified as the individual in question.

Returned to Chandigarh a few days ago, he lives with his family. Sector 35 is where he resides.

Details pertaining to hunting The Department received
This NRI, who lives in Sector 35, was hunting animals listed under the Wildlife Protection Act, according to confidential information provided to the Forest Department. He is accused of hunting a wild boar in a Punjabi woodland and storing its meat at his Chandigarh home.

Net and Pistol Recovered
The department found 11 nets, cartridges, one revolver, and five airguns at Jaspreet Singh’s residence during the raid. The accused has been hunting wild animals and birds for enjoyment (shaukia taur par—as a hobby/sport), according to the investigation. Additionally, there are photos in the department that show the accused holding an airgun beside several animals and birds.

14-Day Judicial Custody of the Accused
After being brought before the District Court by the police, Jaspreet Singh Ghumman was placed under 14 days of judicial detention at Burail Jail.
