New guidelines from the central government implemented.

Hospitals in Chandigarh will continue to use their machines; the cost of consumables and maintenance is predetermined.

Government hospitals would no longer have to wait weeks for medical equipment to be fixed. New rules have been put into effect by the central government in all of the main medical facilities, including PGI Chandigarh.

Medical equipment warranties and maintenance will be predetermined under the new approach. In addition, the cost of pricey consumables (such as test kits, cartridges, etc.) will be set.

When equipment broke down in the past, hospitals had to keep contacting companies. Every time, various quotes were given for consumables and spare parts, resulting in weeks of delays in procurement and repair and the idle operation of government hospital machinery valued at crores of rupees.

How the new regulations will alter the situation:
When the equipment is purchased, the warranty and maintenance schedule will be defined.

Up to ₹5 lakh worth of equipment must have a one-year warranty.

A 2-year warranty and a timely CMC (Comprehensive Maintenance Contract) are mandatory for equipment with a lifespan of 10-12 years.

A 2-year warranty and an 8-year CMC are mandatory for equipment with a lifespan of more than 10 years.

Regarding Consumables: Proprietary consumables (those from the same company) will have their prices fixed.
