Punjabi filmmaker Nav Bajwa, who earlier introduced science fiction to Pollywood, is now back with a new web series titled “Takdeer”, based on astrology. Often seen as superstition, astrology is the central theme of this unique project.
On Wednesday, Nav Bajwa launched the first two episodes of the series — “Deport” and “Aulaad” — along with actors BN Sharma, Deepak Niaz, Ashita Sharma, and child actor Saarthak. The launch also featured the series’ writer Kumar Ajay and directors Gaurav Bhalla and Jatin Suthar. A special guest at the event was Jyotish Acharya Satvinder Singh, who answered audience questions about astrology.
Nav shared how he once confused astrology with astronomy and dreamt of becoming an astronaut. Now, he’s deeply interested in astrology and can even read birth charts. However, he says he doesn’t strictly follow astrology except for choosing release dates.
He says the two emotional stories — one about chasing dreams abroad and another about a father-son bond — inspired him to produce Takdeer. “We want to highlight the scientific side of astrology,” said Nav, adding that he believes in divine will.
Astrologer Satvinder Singh explained that astrology exists in almost every culture, but Indian astrology is highly accurate. He doesn’t claim to make films successful but can suggest favorable dates.
BN Sharma added, “Knowing your future helps you navigate life better.”
One episode of Takdeer will be released each month, and the first two episodes will be available on Satvinder Singh’s YouTube channel soon.
Nav Bajwa is passionate about uplifting Punjabi cinema. While many encourage him to work in Hindi films due to his looks and language skills, he says, “My heart is in Punjabi films. Like South Indian cinema, I want Punjabi films to shine globally.”
Nav’s upcoming film “Madhaniyan”, featuring Dev Kharoud and Neeru Bajwa, will release in September. He’s also planning an intense real-life film titled “Iqbal Singh” with Gurpreet Ghuggi and a few short films aimed at international film festivals.
Nav, who started out as a pilot, says he only pursued flying to fulfill his father’s dream. But acting was always his true passion. Today, he lives with his parents and gives them full credit for his success.
