MP High Court Orders FIR Against Minister Vijay Shah Over Remarks on Colonel Sofia Qureshi

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday ordered the police to register an FIR against state minister Vijay Shah for making controversial remarks about Colonel Sofia Qureshi.

Colonel Qureshi had been regularly updating the public on ‘Operation Sindoor’, a military mission against terrorists, along with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh Shah.

Vijay Shah, a BJP leader and tribal affairs minister, made comments that seemed to insult Colonel Qureshi by suggesting a link between her and terrorists. The High Court took notice on its own (suo motu) and a division bench of Justices Atul Shridharan and Anuradha Shukla instructed the police to file an FIR by 6 pm on Wednesday. The court asked for an update on the FIR during the next hearing at 10:30 am on Thursday.

The court’s detailed order is still awaited.

Shah’s comments sparked widespread criticism, with the Congress party demanding his removal from the state cabinet. Facing backlash, Shah said that if his words hurt anyone, he is willing to apologize ten times and added that he has respect for Colonel Qureshi.
