Moga Doctor Shot in Clinic Had Received Threats from Terrorist Lakhbir Landa: Police

A shocking daylight attack on Dr. Aniljeet Kamboj, a well-known doctor in Moga and father of Punjabi actress Tania, has raised serious concerns about organised crime in Punjab. Police have confirmed that Dr. Kamboj had previously received extortion threats from designated terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa.

The incident took place on Friday at 12:50 PM at Harbans Nursing Home in Kot Ise Khan, where two young men posing as patients entered the clinic. While one of them pretended to complain about a leg infection, the other suddenly pulled out a gun and fired two shots at Dr. Kamboj — hitting him in the chest and abdomen at point-blank range.

He was immediately rushed to Moga Medisity Hospital, where doctors said he remains on a ventilator in extremely critical condition. A senior surgeon confirmed that both bullets had pierced through vital areas.

Past Threats and Security Lapse

Sources revealed that Dr. Kamboj had received extortion threats in December 2022, reportedly from gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa, who has been linked to several high-profile terror and extortion cases in Punjab.

An FIR was registered at the time, and police had assigned a gunman for Dr. Kamboj’s security, but that protection was later withdrawn — a move now under scrutiny.

Investigation Underway

Police are now analyzing CCTV footage, call records, and exploring links to organised crime groups to identify the assailants. So far, no arrests have been made.

Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi visited the hospital and met with the family. “Dr. Kamboj remains on ventilator support. Based on a statement from his son, Chahat Kamboj, we have registered a case against two unidentified attackers,” Gandhi said.

The attack has sparked fresh concern over the rising influence of criminal gangs and the threats faced by professionals in Punjab.
