Matter of Uttering Abusive Words Against Ankur Narula—Christian Community Stages Strong Protest by Burning Effigy of Bhana Sidhu.
The community organized a large-scale protest by burning an effigy of Bhana Sidhu near Babri Bypass on the Pathankot-Amritsar National Highway in Gurdaspur in response to Sidhu’s disparaging remarks about Christian preacher Ankur Narula and the Christian community.
Along with performing a public act of grief (pitt-siapa), the leaders of the Christian community declared that “these people work to create divisions between us and other communities.” We will never put up with their attempts to undermine communal peace.
The Christian community leaders gave specifics, stating that Bhana Sidhu should not have talked in this way and that he has done a huge injustice by disparaging the Ankur Narula Ministry. They claimed that individuals like Bhana Sidhu attempt to politicize such acts in order to become well-known, and that this is frequently done around Christmas, which is regrettable.
They recalled that the Chief Minister had recently declared that hate speech would result in severe consequences. The Christian community urged that complaints be filed against Bhana Sidhu since he has now offended them.
