Panic gripped the Gadaipur area early Monday morning after a massive fire broke out at two adjoining rubber and tyre factories around 4 am. Thick black smoke rising from the blaze was visible from nearly a kilometre away, alarming residents and prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Firefighters from the Jalandhar Fire Department were alerted around 4:15 am and rushed to the scene along with teams from a nearby private facility. Despite efforts lasting over three hours, the fire could not be fully controlled by morning. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
According to officials, the fire spread rapidly due to the highly flammable materials stored inside the factories. Local residents were the first to notice the blaze and informed both the factory owners and the fire brigade. Police teams also reached the site and assisted in clearing the area to ensure public safety.
The two units, located near the Focal Point industrial area, were reportedly storing large quantities of rubber and tyre products, which intensified the fire. The cause of the blaze remains unclear and will be determined after a detailed inspection.
In a separate incident, another fire broke out around 8 am at the Baba International Sports Factory in the Leather Complex area. Goods worth lakhs were destroyed in the fire. No injuries were reported in this incident either.
Authorities have confirmed that inspections will be carried out to check whether the factories had proper fire safety measures. If any violations are found, strict action will be taken under industrial safety laws.
These incidents have once again raised serious concerns over fire safety compliance in factories handling hazardous materials.
