Govinder Mittal, the chairman of the Mohali Market Committee, takes the discrepancies in vegetable markets seriously. The Department of Legal Metrology has given strict guidelines for obtaining weights and measurements.
SAS Nagar, September 26, 2025
The Market Committee Mohali office (New Modern Fruit and Vegetable Market, Sector 65-A, SAS Nagar) today issued a severe order to all vegetable merchants taking part in the Mohali markets, per the directives of Market Committee Mohali Chairman Govinder Mittal. This directive relates to the Department of Legal Metrology verifying their weights and weighing scales.

Chairman Govinder Mittal reported that numerous vegetable vendors were found to be utilising weighing scales and weights that had not been approved by the Department of Legal Metrology during market inspections. Customers (the general public) have also complained about under-weighing and unreliable scales.
Details of the Order:
The Department of Legal Metrology has given all vegetable vendors strong instructions to have their weights and weighing scales used in the markets certified within 15 days.
Chairman Mittal issued a warning: each vegetable vendor would be fined ₹500 if a complaint is filed after the allotted period or if similar incidents are discovered during an inspection. A merchant may receive two fines of ₹500 each (a total of ₹1,000) if they consistently cause this issue. The vegetable vendor won’t be permitted to continue operating at the market after this. This order is in effect right now. The Market Committee is dedicated to making sure that customers receive accurate measurements.
Regarding the aforementioned directives, Market Committee Mohali Chairman Govinder Mittal has written to all vegetable dealers, directing their prompt execution.
