In ਪੰਜਾਬ, the growing number of stray animals on the highways has turned into a major, potentially fatal issue. This topic has recently gained attention again after the ਮੌਤ of well-known Punjabi musician Rajvir Jawanda in a traffic accident. The ਪੰਜਾਬ-Haryana High Court has also heard the case. In light of this, concerns have been raised over the future of the Cow Cess, which was initiated in 2016.
In ਪੰਜਾਬ, there are about 1.80 lakh stray animals.
Approximately 1.80 lakh stray animals, including bulls, cows, and buffaloes, are currently found in ਪੰਜਾਬ, according to Pawandeep Sharma, an Amritsar-based social worker and engineer.

More than 4,000 stray animals are currently freely wandering the roads and intersections in Amritsar, to be precise. According to him, these creatures are raising the likelihood of traffic accidents, vehicle damage, and traffic bottlenecks.
