Majithia Inducted into SAD Core Committee Despite Arrest in Assets Case

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is currently in Vigilance Bureau custody in connection with a disproportionate assets case, was on Friday inducted into the party’s core committee. The decision was announced by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Though Majithia has not been given any formal post within the party, his inclusion in the top decision-making body is seen as a strong message of support from the leadership amid the ongoing investigations.

The reconstituted core committee includes several senior party leaders such as Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Harjinder Singh Dhami, Naresh Gujral, Parmjit Singh Sarna, Hira Singh Gabria, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Daljit Singh Cheema, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Sikander Singh Maluka, and Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Key organisational changes were also announced:

  • Balwinder Singh Bhunder has been appointed Secretary General of the party.

  • Daljit Singh Cheema will serve as Secretary.

  • Former Dera Bassi MLA N.K. Sharma has been made Cashier.

  • Sarabjit Singh Jhijhar has been named President of the Youth Akali Dal.

  • Hargobind Kaur will head the SAD women’s wing.

Majithia’s induction into the core committee comes just days after his arrest in a case involving alleged amassing of assets beyond known sources of income and laundering of ₹540 crore linked to drug trafficking. His inclusion, despite the charges, is being seen as the party’s attempt to rally behind a senior leader facing legal challenges.
