Ludhiana West Bypoll: Over 240 Elderly Voters Cast Ballots from Home Ahead of June 19 Vote

As the Ludhiana West bypoll nears, more than 240 senior citizens aged above 85 years have already exercised their right to vote from the comfort of their homes, thanks to a special facility provided by the Election Commission of India.

The bypoll, scheduled for June 19, will see voting from approximately 1.75 lakh registered voters. However, in line with the Commission’s initiative to support elderly citizens, polling teams have been visiting the homes of eligible senior citizens to collect their votes in advance.

According to sources in the district administration, 264 elderly voters had opted for home voting, and the turnout so far has been encouraging.

Among them was Pritam Singh, the oldest voter in the constituency at 100 years old. Surrounded by polling staff and his family, he cast his vote with assistance from his daughter, Parvinder Kaur. “My father forgets things, but when he saw so many people around, he asked what was happening. We explained, and he voted calmly,” she said.

She appreciated the government’s effort, adding, “In this heat, it would have been nearly impossible to take him to a polling booth. This service is a great relief for families like ours.”

The initiative has been praised by many for making the democratic process more inclusive and respectful of the elderly.
