Ludhiana still at risk of floods: Villages along the Sutlej River on alert, surveillance being kept with drones, soil erosion continues.
Using a drone, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain inspects settlements along the river in Ludhiana.
Many of the communities along the Sutlej River in Ludhiana, Punjab, are still at risk of flooding. The administration has been accused by the people who live in the communities along the riverbanks of neglecting to prohibit illicit sand mining and fix the dams.
People in the nearby villages are even more concerned because a weak dam was damaged by the rapid flow close to Gaddi Fazal village. Using drones, the administration is monitoring the river’s water level and the rural areas. Farmers’ lands continue to erode unchecked.

Illegal mining caused dams to deteriorate.
The dams have grown very weak as a result of unlawful sand mining, according to villagers from Alawal, Sasrali, Dullewal, Talwandi Nobad, and Gaddi Fazal. According to them, mining operations have lowered the river’s base level, weakening the dams and raising the possibility that they may burst during the monsoon.
The Sutlej devoured more than 350 acres of habitat.
Sasrali farmer Sukhdeep Singh stated that the rising water level requires him to stay on guard each year. However, things are really terrible this year, and the river has already risen to a dangerous level. Illegal mining has eroded the dam’s foundation. “Now we are at the mercy of the river,” he stated. The Sutlej has now eaten more than 350 acres of standing crop.
