Dr. Kavita Sharma, a gynecologist at the Civil Hospital in Khanna of Ludhiana district has been suspended by the Punjab government after being accused of negligence. A departmental investigation has also been started against her.
The action came after a tragic incident that happened four days ago. A pregnant woman named Manpreet Kaur was taken to Khanna Civil Hospital on Monday night for delivery.
However, her treatment was delayed. The doctor on duty Dr. Kavita Sharma was contacted by the hospital’s Senior Medical Officer Dr. Maninder Bhasin, but she reportedly refused to come.
As a result, the newborn baby girl could not be saved. Following this, Punjab Health Minister reached the hospital and immediately ordered a three-member inquiry committee to look into the matter. The investigation found that Dr. Kavita Sharma was not present on duty and had shown negligence.
The Health Minister said that We don’t need such doctors. He also added that further action could include canceling the doctor’s license and possibly dismissing her from service.
