The Lok Sabha has passed the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, which aims to regulate the entry and stay of foreigners in India.
Home Minister Amit Shahsaid that people coming to India for business, education, or investment are welcome, but those who pose a security threat will face strict action.
Shah made it clear that India is not a place where anyone can enter and settle freely. He stated that only those following the law and contributing to India’s development would be allowed.
The Bill was passed by a voice vote and replaces old immigration laws, including the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, the Foreigners Act, 1946,and others.
Shah said the new law will help strengthen national security, improve global standards in Indian universities, and boost research and development. The government aims for a developed India by 2047 with the help of such policies.
