Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has revealed that he was approached to participate in the upcoming season of the reality show Bigg Boss, but he firmly turned down the offer.
On Tuesday, Kamra shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation on his Instagram Story, purportedly from a casting professional who claimed to be handling the casting for the new season of Bigg Boss. The message stated that Kamra’s name had come up as a potentially interesting candidate and described the show as a “mad platform to show your real vibe and win over a massive audience.”
Kamra replied sharply, saying, “I would much rather check into a mental hospital…” It remains unclear whether he was approached for Bigg Boss Season 19 or the OTT version’s fourth season. Notably, there were similar reports in 2023 suggesting that Kamra was being considered for Bigg Boss OTT 2, which also did not materialize.
The comedian, known for his bold and anti-establishment views, is currently facing legal troubles. He recently came under fire for his ‘traitor’ comment aimed at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his YouTube stand-up special “Naya Bharat.”
Kamra has been booked in multiple FIRs and, earlier this week, moved the Bombay High Court seeking to quash an FIR registered against him for the remarks. Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has extended his interim anticipatory bail in the same case till April 17.
Amidst the controversy, Kamra also wrote an open letter to BookMyShow, urging the platform not to delist his shows or to at least provide him with access to his loyal audience’s contact details accumulated over the years.
Kamra has further claimed that he is receiving death threats following the controversy and has requested the police to conduct any required questioning via video conference for his safety.
