Kesari Chapter 2 Trailer Unveiled: Akshay Kumar Leads a Courtroom Battle Against the British Empire

The trailer for Kesari Chapter 2 was launched in Delhi on Thursday, giving a powerful look into a lesser-known part of India’s freedom struggle. Starring Akshay Kumar as C Sankaran Nair, the film tells the story of a brave lawyer who challenged the British in court after the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

At the event, producer Karan Johar said the film is a heartfelt tribute to India’s history. “Many know about the massacre, but very few know about the legal fight that followed,” he said.

The film’s team, including Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, R Madhavan, and director Karan Singh Tyagi, were present. Raghu Palat, great-grandson of C Sankaran Nair and author of the book The Case That Shook The Empire, also attended.

The trailer opens with a dramatic courtroom scene where Nair (Akshay Kumar) questions Colonel Reginald Dyer, the British officer who ordered the Jallianwala Bagh firing. One emotional line from the trailer is:
“What weapons did you see in the hands of eight-month-old babies? Their kadas? Or their clenched fists?”

Akshay Kumar shared that the story is very personal to him. “My grandfather witnessed the massacre. My father was born near Jallianwala Bagh. I grew up hearing these stories,” he said, adding that the legal fight that followed has been ignored in history books.

Ananya Panday plays barrister Dilreet Gill, a young lawyer who helps Nair. R Madhavan plays the British lawyer defending the Crown. Madhavan said, “I didn’t see it as a negative role, but as a chance to tell an important story.”

One bold line from the trailer that stood out was: “We are suing the Crown for genocide.”

There was also a discussion around a strong word used by Akshay’s character in the teaser. Akshay said, “Yes, I used an abuse. But the bigger insult is ‘You are still a slave.’ That should make us think.”

Directed by first-time director Karan Singh Tyagi, who is a Harvard-educated lawyer, the film is produced by Dharma Productions. Karan Johar highlighted that the story shows unity too. “A man from Kerala fought for justice in Punjab. This is not just bravery—it’s unity.”

Kesari Chapter 2 promises intense drama and a powerful message. The film will release in theatres on April 18, 2025, and aims to remind people of a fight not won with weapons—but with words and justice.
