Kamal Kaur Bhabhi Murder: Two Held, Hunt On for Main Accused Amritpal Mehron

The Bathinda police have secured a two-day remand for Jaspreet Singh and Nimaratjeet Singh, two men arrested in connection with the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. The duo was presented in court on Friday evening.

Senior Superintendent of Police Amneet Kondal confirmed that the accused are being interrogated, and efforts are ongoing to track down the main accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, who remains absconding. Mehron had released a video taking responsibility for the murder, claiming it was a response to “vulgar content” posted online.

The video triggered a storm of reactions, especially within the Sikh community. Some Nihang groups and religious followers have shown support for Mehron’s stance, while others—including prominent Sikh voices—have strongly condemned the murder, calling it an act of dangerous vigilantism that must not be tolerated.

The chilling impact of the murder is now spreading. Another influencer, Preet Jatti, has come forward saying she received a threatening call from an international number. In a tearful video, she said, “I have a five-month-old baby. I haven’t posted anything wrong. I even apologised to Amritpal months ago. I’m scared.”

The incident has sparked a larger debate on freedom of expression, moral policing, and the role and responsibility of social media influencers. With growing fear in the online creator community, law enforcement is now under pressure to not only arrest Mehron but also restore a sense of safety and justice.
