Jai Singh Chhibber Unanimously Elected President of Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists Union.
In the fourth state-level conference of the Punjab and Chandigarh Journalists Union held in Barnala, Balbir Singh Jandu was unanimously elected as Chairman, Jai Singh Chhibber as President, Santokh Gill as Secretary General, and Bindu Singh as Treasurer.
In addition, Bhushan Sood was elected Senior Vice President, and Rajan Maan, Gagandeep Arora, Jagsir Singh Sandhu, and Jaswant Singh Thind were elected Vice Presidents. Davinder Singh Bhangu was elected Organizing Secretary, while N.P. Dhawan, Balwinder Singh Sipre, Sarabjit Bhatti, and Veerpal Bhagta were elected Secretaries. On this occasion, some amendments to the organization’s constitution were also unanimously approved.
Addressing the gathering, Balwinder Jammu, National President of the Indian Journalist Union, condemned the increasing attacks on journalists not only in the country but also internationally and demanded the restoration of press freedom. He also demanded the Central Government form a Media Commission for the protection of journalists.
