Jagmeet Singh Resigns as NDP Leader After Election Defeat in Canada

Jagmeet Singh, the leader of Canada’s National Democratic Party (NDP), has lost the election in Burnaby Central and announced he will resign. He said he will step down once an interim leader is chosen.

The NDP won only 12 seats this time, compared to 24 in the last election, and lost its national party status. The party had contested 343 seats.

This loss is also seen as a setback for Khalistan supporters in Canada, as Jagmeet Singh was known for his sympathy toward the movement.

Singh, a lawyer, was born in Scarborough, Ontario, and comes from a Punjabi immigrant background. He is married to fashion designer Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu and has two children.
