Inspector Missing After Amritsar Vigilance Action: Police Also Start Proceedings for Absence; Accused of Demanding ₹30 Lakh Bribe.

Inspector Vinod Sharma, the former SHO of the Chheharta police station, is still unreachable by the police a week after the Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar took action.

Lalit Arora, a Chheharta native, was apprehended by the Vigilance Bureau as he was purportedly taking a five lakh rupee bribe on Vinod Sharma’s behalf.

Inspector Vinod Sharma went AWOL following the arrest, and the Vigilance has begun looking into his activities, property, and bank account information. In addition, the Amritsar Police have taken action against Constable Daulatbir Singh, Head Constable Navdeep Singh, and Inspector Vinod Sharma for failing to report for duty.

ACP Shivdarshan Singh of the Amritsar Police has also draughted and forwarded a report to senior officials on the absence of Inspector Vinod Sharma, Head Constable Navdeep Singh, and Constable Daulatbir Singh from the police station.

They turned off their phones when someone tried to reach them. They were discovered to be absent from work without permission or warning. The department is obviously getting ready to take action against them.

Property worth crores with the middleman
According to the preliminary inquiry, Lalit Arora, the middleman who collected Vinod Sharma’s bribe money, had crores of rupees in property obtained through extortion and threats in addition to having considerable power within the police station.

Vigilance claims that Lalit has properties on Lawrence Road and across from the railway station that are valued at crores. The investigating agencies’ suspicions were heightened by Lalit’s opulent lifestyle and opulent house.

The ‘Influence’ of Lalit in the Police Station
Lalit Arora had unfettered access to the police station, according to the Vigilance inquiry. He was a regular visitor to the station, and in many instances, the “dealings” or “release” took place through him.

Sources claim that Lalit’s standing within the station was comparable to that of a gazetted official. His welcoming and hospitality were exceptional, and ordinary people had to obtain his permission before they could enter.

Transactions in Crores
Vinod Sharma and Lalit Arora have been involved in transactions worth crores of rupees in recent months, according to Vigilance authorities. During his interrogation, Lalit, who is still on Vigilance remand, made a number of significant revelations.

Lalit has admitted during the remand that the police station often engaged in a money game involving the release or detention of people, land disputes, and economic settlements.

Inspector Vinod Sharma’s bank information, land records, and other assets are being gathered by Vigilance. Senior officials will shortly receive the information on his illicit properties, according to department officials. The Complainant’s Statement
SHO Vinod Sharma and his team allegedly threatened to frame him and his cousin in a drug case, according to the complainant, Vikram Kumar, also known as Vicky, a resident of Azad Nagar, Chheharta. Additionally, they said that the police had confiscated one of his vehicles and threatened to file a complaint, claiming that drugs had been found in it. In order to settle the issue, he then got in touch with Lalit Arora, who was acquainted with the SHO.

On behalf of the SHO, Lalit allegedly requested a bribe of ₹30 lakh, promising that if the money was given, the case would not be filed. The complainant consented to pay ₹25 lakh in the evening and the rest, ₹5 lakh, right away. While Lalit was taking the bribe money in front of two government witnesses, the Vigilance team set up a trap and caught him red-handed. The SHO’s room used to have a separate chair.
Lalit Arora was the SHO’s right-hand guy at the Chheharta police station, according to the report. He was a powerful figure at the station. As a result, he had his own chair in the SHO’s room, and most transactions were conducted via him. Vigilance is currently looking for Inspector Vinod Sharma and his assistant, Constable Daulatbir Singh, who are currently on the run.
