ਭਾਰਤ and the United States started official talks ਅੱਜ to work on a trade agreement. On the same day, US President Donald Trump repeated his claim that ਭਾਰਤ is ready to offer zero tariffs (no taxes on trade) to the US.
Just two days earlier, ਭਾਰਤ’s Foreign ਮੰਤਰੀ S. Jaishankar had responded to Trump’s earlier comments by saying that the talks are still ongoing and that “nothing is final until everything is final.” He added that trade deals are complex and must benefit both countries.
In an interview with Fox ਖ਼ਬਰਾਂ on Friday, Trump said, “ਭਾਰਤ makes it almost impossible to do business. But now they are ready to cut 100% of their tariffs for the US.” He also said a deal could happen soon, but he is not in a hurry.
At the same time, a team led by ਭਾਰਤ’s Commerce ਮੰਤਰੀ has started discussions with US officials in Washington to move forward with the trade deal.
