The Government of India and the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) signed an official agreement on Thursday to establish the IBCA headquarters in India.

This agreement allows India to host the IBCA Headquarters and Secretariat, helping the alliance achieve its goals and function effectively.

India will provide Rs 150 crore in financial support from 2023-24 to 2028-29. The funding will be used to build infrastructure, create a financial corpus, and cover recurring expenses.

The IBCA was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 9, during the event marking 50 years of Project Tiger in Mysuru.

IBCA focuses on the conservation of seven big cats—tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar, and puma. Its main aim is to encourage global cooperation, share best practices, and protect big cats worldwide.

The agreement was signed by P Kumaran, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, and SP Yadav, Director General of IBCA.
