The Congress party’s top body, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), passed a resolution on Friday asking the Indian government to strongly deal with Pakistan for supporting terrorism in India.
However, BJP leader Sambit Patra criticized Congress because one of its leaders, Charanjit Singh Channi, questioned the 2019 Balakot air strike and also mocked Prime Minister Modi. Patra said Channi held a separate press conference right after the CWC meeting, showing a lack of unity in the party.
In addition to political reactions, the Indian government is taking strict steps against Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 Indian tourists were killed by Pakistan-trained terrorists.
India has now banned Pakistani ships from entering any Indian port. Also, Indian ships are not allowed to visit any Pakistani port. This order was issued under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958, to protect Indian ships, cargo, and infrastructure.
Earlier, India had already banned all imports from Pakistan and suspended the Indus Waters Treaty as part of its strong response. These steps show India’s firm stand after the deadly attack.
