India Extends Warm Felicitations on Bangladesh’s National Day

On the occasion of Bangladesh’s National Day on March 26, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent their warm greetings to the people of Bangladesh.

In her message to Bangladesh’s President Mohammed Shahabuddin, President Murmu conveyed, “On behalf of the government, the people of India, and on my own behalf, I extend warm greetings and felicitations to Your Excellency and to the friendly people of Bangladesh.” She highlighted the multi-faceted cooperation between India and Bangladesh, covering areas like trade, connectivity, development, energy, education, and cultural exchanges. She reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting a democratic, peaceful, and progressive Bangladesh and emphasized Bangladesh’s importance in India’s “Neighbourhood First” and “Act East” policies.

Prime Minister Modi, in his message to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, expressed his felicitations and emphasized the shared history and sacrifices that form the foundation of the bilateral relationship. He noted, “The spirit of the Liberation War of Bangladesh continues to remain a guiding light for our relationship, which has flourished across multiple domains, bringing tangible benefits to our peoples.”

March 26 marks Bangladesh’s declaration of independence from Pakistan in 1971, a pivotal moment in the country’s history. Additionally, India and Bangladesh observe December 6 as Maitri Diwas (Friendship Day), commemorating India’s recognition of Bangladesh as an independent state in 1971.
