The Muktsar ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪੁਲਿਸ have busted a honey trap extortion racket and arrested six ਲੋਕ, including two women. Two more accused, including a woman, are still on the run.
According to DSP (Investigation) Ramanpreet Singh Gill, the gang had been blackmailing ਲੋਕ for a long time. “They contacted victims directly or by phone, trapped them, made videos, and then demanded money,” he said. He added that the gang had been active for quite some time.
A case under Sections 308(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered on Friday after a complaint by one Gurpreet Singh. “More victims may be afraid to come forward due to fear of public shame,” said the DSP.
Those arrested include Harjinder Singh alias Arshdeep (Chak Giljewala), Jasmail Singh (Sukhna Ablu), Bhola Singh (Assa Buttar), Gora Singh (Chak Bir Sarkar), Sandeep Kaur (Doda), and Manjeet Kaur (Assa Buttar). Some of them have a criminal past.
The two absconding accused are Buta Singh (Buttar ਪਿੰਡ) and Nempal alias Nimmo (Assa Buttar). ਪੁਲਿਸ investigation is ongoing.
