IMD Warns of Flashflood Risk in Himachal Pradesh as Heavy Rainfall Continues

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flashflood alert for multiple districts in Himachal Pradesh, warning of moderate to high risk over the next 24 hours due to continuous heavy rainfall across the state.

According to the Hydromet Division of IMD, districts including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan are likely to be impacted. The warning remains in effect till July 1.

The IMD has highlighted the possibility of surface runoff and waterlogging in areas with fully saturated soils, particularly low-lying and vulnerable regions.

An orange alert has also been issued for Shimla, Solan, Kullu, Mandi, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, and Sirmaur, forecasting isolated heavy rainfall, accompanied by intense thunderstorms and lightning.

In addition, light to moderate rain is expected in Shimla and nearby areas, with low visibility conditions likely to affect transportation and daily activity.

Authorities have urged residents in the affected districts to remain cautious and avoid venturing into flood-prone zones. Local administrations are on alert and monitoring the situation closely.
