In a groundbreaking event in Beijing, thousands of humanoid robots ran alongside human participants in a half-marathon for the first time. The 21.1-km (13.1-mile) race featured bipedal robots of different shapes and sizes, each supported by teams of engineers, operators, and navigators.
To ensure safety, the organizers set up separate lanes for robots and humans, divided by a barrier. Unlike human runners, the robot teams followed their own set of rules, including scheduled battery swap pit stops.
The robot named Sky Project Ultra, also called Tien Kung Ultra, from the Tien Kung Team, won the robot race by finishing in 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds. Additional awards were given for best endurance, best walking style, and most creative design.
The event saw moments of both triumph and struggle — including a robot that fell at the starting line and was picked up by an engineer, and another warmly welcomed by spectators after it completed the race.
