History of Mohali.
From ancient times to its current growth as a planned urban center, Mohali, also known as Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (S.A.S. Nagar), has a rich history. Part of the “Tricity” and located next to Chandigarh, it has grown to be a significant center for sports, education, and information technology.

Establishment and Naming.
After Chandigarh was designated as a Union Territory and ਪੰਜਾਬ was reorganized in the late 1960s, a new capital was required. The region surrounding Mohali ਪਿੰਡ was selected for development. The contemporary ਸ਼ਹਿਰ was created when it was first developed as an industrial park and then expanded to incorporate residential areas. The township was formally christened Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (S.A.S. Nagar) in 1975 during a meeting of the All ਭਾਰਤ Congress Committee in remembrance of Sahibzada Ajit Singh, the eldest son of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru.

Sikh and Ancient History.
Artifacts from the Harappan civilization, which flourished around 8,000 years ago, provide archaeological evidence that the Mohali region has been inhabited for thousands of years. The ਸ਼ਹਿਰ has strong ties to Sikh heritage as well.
Sector 62 is home to the historic Gurdwara Amb Sahib, which honors the visit of Guru Har Rai, the seventh Sikh Guru.
Baba Banda Singh Bahadur: Banda Singh Bahadur beat the Mughals in a major battle that took place in the surrounding area. To honor this momentous triumph, a soaring victory monument known as the Fateh Burj was constructed.
Akali Hanuman Singh: Akali Hanuman Singh, who led 500 Sikhs in a historic battle against the British forces, was killed in the area.

Establishment of the ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ.
Mohali was formally created as ਪੰਜਾਬ’s 18th ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ on April 14, 2006. Parts of the districts of Patiala and Rupnagar were combined to accomplish this. Because of its advantageous location close to Chandigarh, it grew quickly and became a significant industrial and IT cluster.

Contemporary Development.
Mohali is a thriving ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਅੱਜ, renowned for its cutting-edge infrastructure and major cultural and economic contributions to the state.
Sports Hub: The ਪੰਜਾਬ Cricket Association (PCA) International Stadium, located in the ਸ਼ਹਿਰ, has played host to multiple international matches and helped make Mohali famous throughout the world.
