Heavy rain in Chandigarh, tree falls: Heavy rain alert till 2 PM in Tricity; Rain in 3 districts of Punjab.


On Monday, October 6, rain fell in three districts of Punjab. These consist of Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana. In Sri Anandpur Sahib, Ropar, the village of Gambhirpur also saw hail at midnight.

Thirteen districts in Punjab are under a rain alert issued by the Meteorological Department. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and Sangrur are all at risk of heavy rain.

In the meantime, Chandigarh has been experiencing intense rain since the morning. As a result, a tree near Sector 11/15 has fallen in the direction of Sector 15. The Tricity (Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula) is under a severe rain and dust storm alert through 2:00 PM, according to the Meteorological Department.

The Meteorological Science Centre says that until Tuesday morning, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh could get a lot of rain. As a result, Punjab is under an alert through October 7 of next year. The rain in Himachal poses a risk of floods in Punjab. The dams are releasing water, and the controlled release of water over the past two days has caused the rivers’ water levels to rise.

The management of Pong Dam and Bhakhra Dam is constantly releasing water from the dams. Pong Dam has released around 39,368 cusecs of water, Bhakhra Dam has released about 40,964 cusecs, and Ranjit Sagar Dam (Thein Dam) has released about 33,734 cusecs. The water level in the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers has risen as a result.
