Heavy Rain Alert in Punjab for the Next 3 Days: Danger of Flood, Water Released from Thein Dam, 2 Feet Gates of Bhakra Opened.

In Northwest India, the Western Disturbance has erupted. Though an Orange and Yellow Alert has been issued for October 5–6, and 7, the state’s weather is expected to stay normal today. In order to handle any possible flood catastrophe, water is being released from the full dams as a result of the rain alert. As a result, Punjab faces the threat of flooding once more.

The gates of Bhakra Dam are being opened up to two feet because of the weather alert, according to Education Minister Harjot Bains. The water level in the Satluj River will rise by half a foot as a result of the approximately 7,000 cusecs of water that will be released from this location.

The Bhakra’s Eight feet below the danger mark is the water level. BBMB has decided to take this action as a precaution.

Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Firozpur Are at Risk of Flooding
About 35,000 cusecs of water are being released from the Ranjit Sagar Dam beginning at 6 AM today, based on the information obtained. The water discharged by the Ranjit Sagar Dam (also known as the Thein Dam) flows straight into the Ravi River. As a result, Punjab’s Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Firozpur districts are at risk of flooding.

Areas Along the Ravi River Should Be Alert
The area is more vulnerable to flooding because of the approximately 35,000 cubic feet of water that the Ranjit Sagar Dam releases into the Ravi River. When the water flow surpasses 35,000 cusecs, a warning is sent out for the Ravi River’s downstream regions, particularly Koliyan Adda, the Pathankot Border, and the lower plains.

DC Amritsar Sakshi Sahni issued an order stating that rains and the release of water from reserved dams could cause fluctuations in the water level in the Ravi and Beas rivers. Therefore, farmers and livestock owners should refrain from taking their animals to the river’s banks or inside it and do not try to cross it until October 10.

Find Out How the Dams Are Doing
Based on the state of the main dams in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh as of 6 AM on October 4:

The Pong Dam’s water level was measured at 1388.35 feet. 10,084 cusecs was the water flow that entered, and 17,173 cusecs was the water flow that left.

When the entering flow was 23,203 cusecs and the exiting flow was 32,925 cusecs, the water level in the Bhakra Dam was measured at 1672.62 feet.

However, the Ranjit Sagar Dam (also known as the Thein Dam) had a water level of 1712.19 feet. While the departing water flow was much larger at 34,739 cusecs, the incoming water flow was just 3,570 cusecs. These numbers make it evident that the water released by all three dams…
