Crores of customers of SBI, the country’s largest state-owned bank, are facing the threat of fraud. The government has issued a warning in this regard and alerted SBI customers about the possibility of fraud. They have been asked to beware of fake messages received in the name of SBI.
Cheating in the name of reward points
In an alert issued by PIB Factcheck, SBI customers have been asked to beware of a fraudulent message circulating on social media. This message appears to be from SBI but is actually fake. It asks customers to download an APK file to redeem reward points.
Bank does not send such messages
According to the alert, this type of message is not correct. SBI never sends any link to its customers through SMS or WhatsApp and asks customers to download APK file. Do not click on any suspicious links and download unknown files to protect yourself from the dangers of scams.
Instruction given by PI Factcheck
SBI customers are instructed to verify such messages by contacting SBI officials directly through PIB FactCheck. For verification, customers should always contact the SBI official only through authenticated contact method. By being aware, you can protect your personal and financial information and protect yourself from fraudulent activities.
Take action to avoid fraud
If you receive a message, first verify the authenticity of the sender. Banks send messages only through verified channels.
Never click on links or download any files in suspicious messages.
If any suspicious message appears in the name of the bank, verify it by contacting the bank through official channels.
Make payments and other transactions only through the official app or website.
Never share your personal or financial information via email, SMS, WhatsApp or phone.
