The premiere of ‘Akaal: The Unconquered’ turned into a grand spectacle at CP67 Mall on Tuesday evening as Nihangs, wearing sunglasses, made a striking entrance that wowed the audience waiting for actor-director Gippy Grewal and his cast.
The film, a fictional period drama written, directed, and headlined by Gippy Grewal, also features Nimrat Khaira, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Happy Raikoti, and Prince Kanwaljit Singh. Gippy appeared in a brown kurta and kesari (saffron) turban, accompanied by the film’s cinematographer Baljit Singh Deo.
The evening was made extra special for Gippy, not just as a filmmaker but also as a father. His son Ekom Grewal, who made his debut in the film, left the audience impressed with his performance. “I knew nothing when I joined the industry. But I want my sons to be prepared before facing the camera,” Gippy shared. He revealed that Ekom trained in parkour, Gatka (Sikh martial art), and other martial arts to prepare for the warrior role.
‘Akaal’, backed by Dharma Productions, was released in both Hindi and Punjabi to reach a wider Indian audience. Gurpreet Ghuggi praised Gippy’s journey, saying, “Only a good learner can be a good teacher—and Gippy proves that.”
The film, which took five years to complete, promotes Sikh values and aims to inspire the younger generation. “We can’t control what children see on social media, but we can try to pass on the right values through cinema,” said Ghuggi.
Gippy also spoke about his long-standing creative partnership with Baljit Singh Deo. Other actors present at the premiere included Sardar Sohi and Abheyy Attri.
‘Akaal: The Unconquered’ released in cinemas on April 10.
