The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has detained gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who is also a suspect in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act for one year. Bhagwanpuria, whose real name is Jagdeep Singh, was transferred to Silchar Jail in Assam on Saturday evening.
Bhagwanpuria, the first Punjab gangster to be detained under this law, is a key figure in the Moosewala murder. He is accused of providing two shooters and logistic support for the killing. He has been linked to cross-border drug smuggling, extortion, and violent activities, even while in prison, using smuggled mobile devices to run operations.
The NCB’s decision comes after a thorough investigation uncovered his involvement in drug trafficking and crime syndicates, with ties to international networks in Pakistan, Canada, and the US. Bhagwanpuria had previously been linked to both Akali and Congress leaders.
Bhagwanpuria’s criminal record includes 128 cases, including 12 under the NDPS Act. His move to Silchar Jail aims to disrupt his control over criminal networks in Punjab and surrounding areas, as per intelligence reports and NCB sources
