Former Punjab Minister Bikram Majithia Arrested in Disproportionate Assets Case

Senior Akali leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested on Wednesday morning by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. A team of officers raided his home in Amritsar before taking him into custody. He has now been taken to Mohali for further questioning.

Majithia, who is also the brother-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, has been arrested in a case related to disproportionate assets — meaning he is accused of owning more wealth than his known sources of income can explain.

His wife, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, who is also an Akali MLA, said the officers didn’t inform the family about the reason for the raid. She claimed around 30 officers entered their home unexpectedly.

Soon after the raid, Bikram Majithia shared a video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), accusing the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government of targeting him unfairly. He said, “Bhagwant Mann ji, no matter how many FIRs you register, I will not be afraid. Your government cannot silence me.”

He also said that he has always spoken up for Punjab’s people and will continue to do so. Meanwhile, some SAD leaders tried to enter Majithia’s house after the raid, but were stopped by police, leading to a brief scuffle.

The case is still developing.
