Jagraon: Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in Jagraon and now local people are angry. At the same time a political fight has broken out between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sarbjit Kaur Manuke and Nagar Council President Jatinderpal Singh Rana.
MLA Sarbjit Kaur Manuke said a ₹10.64 crore drainage project was planned to solve the city’s old flood problems, but no funds have been received yet. She blamed the council for not cooperating and warned that if the Punjab government doesn’t take action soon, officials will be held responsible.
Meanwhile people on social media are criticizing the MLA and accusing her of breaking promises made in 2022.
In response Councillor Rana said that funds are now being provided and accused the MLA of lying. He claimed that although a development plan was ready it was delayed because funds were not released on time. A re-audit was requested in December 2024 when the Punjab government still hadn’t sent money.
Rana also accused the MLA of blocking a ₹73 crore development plan, misusing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan equipment, and playing dirty politics. He questioned why the MLA stopped the work when funds were available and urged people to find out who is truly responsible for the city’s suffering.
As both leaders blame each other, the people of Jagraon continue to face problems due to flooding and lack of proper drainage.
