Flights from Halwara Airport to Begin Soon, Connecting Ludhiana to Global Destinations

Flights from Halwara Airport, which will connect Ludhiana to both domestic and international destinations, are expected to start soon. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora announced on Monday that most of the construction work is finished, and only a few formal steps remain.

Speaking at a press conference, Arora gave an update on the airport project and said that an inspection team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) visited the site on March 27. The team suggested some changes, including replacing barbed wire fencing with a solid boundary wall, even though the original fence met earlier approved designs.

Arora said that work is moving fast to meet all AAI requirements and that he is personally checking the progress daily. Once the changes are made, the AAI will inspect the site again, and the airport will be officially handed over from the Public Works Department (PWD) to the AAI.

At first, there will be two daily flights- One morning flight will connect Ludhiana to Europe. Another flight in the afternoon will connect to the US and Australia.

Initially, check-in will happen at Halwara, but immigration and customs will be handled in Delhi. As more people start using the airport, these services will also be added at Halwara.

Arora called this airport a major development for Ludhiana and Punjab, saying it will boost the economy. He added that this is a dream project of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and will benefit the entire region.
