FIR Filed Over Doctored Video of Bajwa’s Statement; AAP Media Handler Under Scanner

The Chandigarh Police have registered an FIR against an unknown media handler from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for sharing an edited video of Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa’s statement. This action came after Bajwa filed a complaint, claiming the video was doctored to misrepresent his views and harm his public image.

The video was related to Bajwa’s original criticism of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, which he accused of harassing MLA Ganieve Majithia during a house search after the arrest of her husband, Bikram Singh Majithia. Bajwa said the edited version removed parts where he spoke in support of Ganieve Majithia and made it look like he was supporting Bikram Majithia instead.

According to Bajwa, AAP leaders shared the altered video from their official social media accounts to spread false information and damage his and the Congress party’s reputation. He also alleged that the move was an attempt to distract from the wrongdoings of the Vigilance Bureau, including their alleged inappropriate conduct during the raid at a woman MLA’s house.

In his complaint to the Sector 3 Police Station in Chandigarh, Bajwa also named AAP leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, CM Bhagwant Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora. However, the police have not named them in the FIR so far.

The FIR has been registered under Sections 336(4), 356, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Bajwa submitted a pen drive containing both the original and edited versions of the video as evidence and urged police to investigate the matter under cyber and criminal laws.
