In a joint raid by the Amritsar Health Department and Police, a fake Desi ghee manufacturing factory near Gillwali village on Tarn Taran Road was shut down.
The factory, operating under the name JK Food, was producing counterfeit Desi ghee by mixing harmful chemicals with vegetable and refined oils.
According to Lakhwinder Singh, Assistant Commissioner of the Food Supply Department, the fake ghee was being openly sold near religious places, including the Darbar Sahib, posing serious health risks and hurting religious sentiments.
Police officer Harsimrpreet Kaur stated that they had been monitoring the factory for some time.
During the raid, a large quantity of fake ghee was seized. The factory owner, Vikramjit Singh, fled the scene, but one worker was arrested. A search is ongoing to catch the absconding owner.
Authorities confirmed that the plant has been sealed, and strict action will be taken to prevent such activities in the future. The police are also tracking the distribution network of the fake ghee.
