The family of Nimisha Priya, a nurse from Kerala, is feeling relieved after Yemeni authorities postponed her execution. Her husband, Tomy Thomas, said he is happy with the decision and thanked the Indian ਸਰਕਾਰ and other groups who helped in the matter.
“The execution has been postponed. That is good ਖ਼ਬਰਾਂ. We are happy and relieved. I believe efforts will continue to save her life and bring her back home,” he said.
Tomy also shared that their daughter, who is studying in Class 12, has been kept away from the stressful ਖ਼ਬਰਾਂ.
Nimisha Priya, who is 38 years old and from Kollengode in Kerala’s Palakkad ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ, was sentenced to ਮੌਤ for killing a Yemeni citizen in 2017. A Yemeni court gave her the ਮੌਤ sentence in 2020, and her final appeal was rejected in November 2023.
She is currently in a jail in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, which is controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi group. Her execution was earlier planned for Wednesday but has now been delayed, giving hope to her family and supporters.
