ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ has uncovered a major illegal pharmaceutical drug racket stretching from Amritsar to Haridwar. The operation began with the recovery of just 35 drug capsules in Amritsar, which led to the discovery of a drug manufacturing unit in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The racket was involved in producing and illegally distributing opioid-based pills.
ਪੰਜਾਬ DGP Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation revealing that so far six ਲੋਕ have been arrested including the head of the pharma company Luminous Biotech Limited a pharmacist and a distributor. All have been booked under the NDPS Act and other legal provisions.
A shocking aspect of the case is that many of the seized drug strips were labeled For ਸਰਕਾਰ supply only Not for sale. This points to serious misuse of ਸਰਕਾਰ-issued medicine stock and raises concerns about corruption and loopholes within the public healthcare system.
The ਪੁਲਿਸ have sealed the pharmaceutical units involved and seized their records for investigation. Around 70,000 tablets and a large amount of cash suspected to be drug money have also been recovered.
DGP Gaurav Yadav has stated clearly that ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ will not allow any kind of drug network whether traditional narcotics or pharmaceutical opioids to survive in the state. Action is being taken at every level to dismantle such illegal operations.
In a separate announcement ਪੰਜਾਬ Cabinet ਮੰਤਰੀ Aman Arora declared a state holiday in honor of freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh. Born in Sunam Udham Singh made a supreme sacrifice for the nation. The long-standing demand of the Kamboj community for a holiday on his martyrdom day has now been accepted.
